Jets jinx gets Giants' Sehorn again

Associated Press

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- New York Giants cornerback Jason Sehorn sustained his second straight season-ending injury, breaking his left leg in the first quarter of 41-28 win over the New York Jets on Sunday.

The Giants (6-6) also lost starting center Brian Williams with a sprained left knee and backup running back Sean Bennett with a sprained right knee.

Sehorn, who missed all of last season after tearing up his right knee in the preseason returning a kickoff, will be sidelined at least six weeks, which means his season is over unless New York reaches the NFC title game.

Williams is only expected to be sidelined a couple of weeks, while Bennett will be out three weeks after spraining his right knee for the second time this season.

Sehorn was hurt on the third play from scrimmage after hitting Jets receiver Wayne Chrebet nears their sidelines. He originally thought it was a bruised calf and he returned for the next series, playing all three plays.

He realized something was seriously wrong after tackling Keyshawn Johnson on the first play of that second series.

"As I planted I felt something give a little," said Sehorn, who watched the second half on the sidelines with the aid of crutches. "... The third play I realized there was a little too much movement."

It's the first time Sehorn has broken a bone in his life.

"I hope no one will be upset if when we play the Jets the next time, I take the week off," Sehorn said.

Williams was injured while blocking on a play on which Kerry Collins threw a 16-yard pass to tight end Pete Mitchell. Collins scored on a sneak on the next play.

Williams' eye injury two years ago occurred on the third day of training camp when he was poked in the eye by teammate Bernard Holsey in a blocking drill.

Bennett was hurt late in the first quarter, and Mitchell slightly sprained his right ankle late in the game.
