EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- New York Jets quarterback Vinny
Testaverde was scratched from the exhibition game Friday night with
the New York Giants because of his sprained toe.

The Jets said the decision was not weather-related, but rain in
the area made the new grass field at Giants Stadium slippery.
Testaverde was hurt last Saturday at Baltimore and was expected
to miss a week. But he returned to practice Tuesday and looked
sharp Wednesday.
Still, the Jets played it safe and went with Ray Lucas at
quarterback. Testaverde is coming back from a torn left Achilles'
tendon suffered in the 1999 season opener. The toe injury is on the
same foot.
