Report: Shell would be interested if contacted

ESPN.com news services

Former Raiders coach Art Shell would be interested in coaching the team again if offered the job, his agent told the San Francisco Chronicle on Thursday.

As of yet, the Raiders have not contacted Shell.

Raiders offensive coordinator Bill Callahan is the leading contender to get the job, ESPN.com's Len Pasquarelli reported earlier this week. Shell, however, does have close ties to the Raiders, having coached them before.

"Obviously, Art would be interested," Shell's agent, Danny More, told the Chronicle. "He thinks it's the best job in the world. But nobody from the Raiders has contacted me. ... People have talked about it, but that's a big difference. ... I don't think Art is in the circle, but if asked, he would serve. Art loves Al (Davis). He loves the Raiders."

Callahan's representative, Gary O'Hagan of IMG Sports in Minneapolis, told the Chronicle he is not fazed by the fact that his client has not been contacted yet.

"We know that (senior assistant) Bruce Allen and Al Davis know him and what kind of a person he is, and what kind of a coach he is," O'Hagan told the newspaper. "It's not like somebody coming from another team."
