Steve Smith injures left ankle

NEW ORLEANS -- Carolina star receiver Steve Smith hobbled off the field with a left ankle injury during the third quarter of the Panthers' 16-14 loss to the New Orleans Saints on Sunday.

Smith suffered high ankle sprain, a person familiar with his condition told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter. It is uncertain how much time, if any, Smith will miss.

"I'm just going to try to walk to the plane without too much pain and see how it feels in the morning," Smith said.

Smith had only two catches for 11 yards before he went to the sideline with the Panthers in the lead, 14-13.
