SCOUTING REPORT
QB Losman faces stiffer testThis game features two teams that rely on outstanding defenses to win games. The Bills will need another impressive gameplan for QB J.P. Losman and will need RB Willis McGahee to continue the high production he's shown since his rookie season.

For Tampa Bay, head coach Jon Gruden must continue to find ways to run the ball against an impressive defense. Can Carnell Williams have another great game? Can the Bucs continue to protect Brian Griese? How will defensive coordinator Monte Kiffen match-up with both DC Ronde Barber and Brian Kelly in passing situations? Which special teams unit will step up and create field position?

Buffalo (1-0) at Tampa Bay (1-0), 1:00 pm EDT

TAMPA, Florida (Ticker) -- The Buffalo Bills ranked second overall in defense each of the last two years. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers ruled on defense when they won the Super Bowl in 2002.

The teams meet in an interconference battle on Sunday.

Led by linebackers London Fletcher and Takeo Spikes, defensive end Aaron Schobel and safety Troy Vincent, the Bills forced five turnovers, recorded five sacks and held the Houston Texans to 120 total yards in a season-opening 22-7 victory last week.

Fletcher, the team's leading tackler with 144 last season, picked up where he left off with 10 tackles and a fumble recovery against Houston. Spikes, who was second on the team in tackles with 99 last year, added five tackles and a sack.

Schobel recorded two of the team's five sacks and Vincent had a pair of interceptions.

The Bills led the NFL with 39 turnovers forced and had an AFC-best 24 interceptions last season.

The Buccaneers are not quite as intimidating on defense as they were in 2002, but they still are solid. Outside linebacker Derrick Brooks and defensive end Simeon Rice remain among the premier players at their respective positions.

The 32-year-old Brooks led the Bucs with 137 tackles last season. Still perhaps the best cover linebacker in the NFL, Brooks had an interception in Tampa Bay's season-opening 24-13 win at Minnesota.

Rice, who recorded 53 1/2 sacks in his previous four years with the Buccaneers, dumped Vikings quarterback Daunte Culpepper once and forced a fumble last week.

Tampa Bay forced five turnovers against the Vikings, intercepting Culpepper three times, including two by cornerback Brian Kelly.

On Sunday, the Bucs will face quarterback J.P. Losman, who engineered scoring drives on each the Bills' first five possessions in his first NFL start last week.

A first-round pick in 2004, Losman was named as the starter by coach Mike Mularkey after the team waived veteran Drew Bledsoe in March and completed 13-of-18 passes for 143 yards and a touchdown in the first half when the Bills built a 19-7 lead.

Mularkey didn't hesitate to make the switch to the inexperienced Losman because his team is built on a solid defense and a strong running game.

Willis McGahee, who rushed for more than 100 yards in seven of 11 starts last year, gained 117 yards on 22 carries last week.

Bucs coach Jon Gruden received major contributions from two rookies in the season opener.

Carnell "Cadillac" Williams, the fifth overall pick in the 2005 draft, rushed for 148 yards on 27 carries, including a 71-yard touchdown with 1:23 left.

Tight end Alex Smith, a third-round pick from Stanford, caught touchdown passes of 23 and two yards.

Matchup to watch: Bills left tackle Mike Gandy, who was signed to replace Jonas Jennings in the offseason, lines up against Rice.

Series: The Buccaneers lead, 5-2, but the teams have not met since 2000.

Next week: Buffalo hosts Atlanta, September 25 Tampa Bay visits Green Bay, September 25
