SCOUTING REPORT
Eagles offense flies into DallasThe first quarter of the 2005 season has been a roller-coaster for the Cowboys, but Sunday's visit from the Eagles provides a terrific opportunity to make up considerable ground in the NFC East standings. QB Donovan McNabb is not getting much from his running game but WR Terrell Owens & Co. are giving the hobbled quarterback all the support he needs via the aerial attack.

Neither team is running the ball effectively, but that is a much bigger issue to Bill Parcells' Cowboys. After four games, Dallas RB Julius Jones has yet to eclipse the century mark. His lack of production on the ground is forcing QB Drew Bledsoe to shoulder too much of the load. Jones has to pick up the slack against a blitz-crazed Eagles' defense, as the immobile Bledsoe will stand little chance otherwise.

Philadelphia (3-1) at Dallas (2-2), Sunday 4:15 pm EDT

IRVING, Texas (Ticker) -- Terrell Owens has bad memories of his last meeting against the Dallas Cowboys.

The brash wide receiver of the Philadelphia Eagles suffered a severe right ankle injury against the Cowboys last December 19.

On Sunday, Owens and the Eagles look to maintain their recent mastery of the Cowboys when the NFC East rivals meet at Texas Stadium.

The Eagles have won nine of the last 10 meetings against the Cowboys, with the average margin in the victories being 22.1 points.

In the contest at Philadelphia last season, Owens was injured on a horse-collar tackle by safety Roy Williams. There now is a rule in place that penalizes that type of tackle.

Owens underwent surgery for the injury and also suffered a fracture of the fibula below the knee. He missed the final two regular-season games and two postseason games before making a couragous return in the Super Bowl.

In the first meeting against the Cowboys here on November 15 on a Monday night, Owens displayed why he's arguably the NFL's best player at his position, catching six passes for 134 yards and three touchdowns in a 49-21 victory.

The second meeting was much tougher, but the Eagles came away with a 12-7 victory. Donovan McNabb engineered a late drive that Dorsey Levens capped with a two-yard TD run with 1:57 remaining.

Despite playing with sports hernia and a sore chest, McNabb is off to a sizzling start, leading the league with 1,333 passing yards and 11 touchdowns. Although very early, he is on pace to break NFL records for yards passing (5,332), attempts (696) and completions (440).

McNabb enjoyed his third straight 300-yard game and Owens also had a monster afternoon as the Eagles overcame an 18-point deficit last week in a 37-31 victory at Kansas City.

McNabb threw for 369 yards and three touchdowns and Owens had 11 receptions for 171 yards and a touchdown. Owens leads the league in receptions (32) and yards (506) to go along with four touchdowns.

Expected to offer the biggest challenge to the Eagles in the division this season, the Cowboys have been inconsistent through four games.

Drew Bledose threw for 212 yards and a touchdown but was unable to finish off a late drive in last week's 19-13 loss at Oakland.

Bledsoe, whose mobility is an issue, could expect to see a wide array of blitzes from aggressive Eagles defensive coordinator Jim Johnson. The veteran signal-caller has been sacked 10 times in four games.

The Cowboys also will try to get running back Juluis Jones going. After rushing for 819 yards in eight games as a rookie, Jones still is seeking his first 100-yard game of the season.

Matchup to watch: Eagles tight end L.J. Smith, who had nine catches for 67 yards and a touchdown last week, against Williams.

Series: Dallas leads, 51-40.

Next week: Philadelphia has its bye Dallas hosts the NY Giants, October 16
