Browns struggling to score TDsThe Browns return home to host the Tennessee Titans in a must-win game for both teams. One of the keys will be the performance of both starting quarterbacks -- Steve McNair and Trent Dilfer -- who must eliminate mistakes and make good decisions.
The Browns combined for 325 yards on offense last week and face a Titans defense that is allowing 308.9 yards per game. Titans offensive coordinator Norm Chow again must plan to be without receiver Drew Bennett and will have to overcome other injuries with limited personnel options, so Browns defensive coordinator Todd Grantham will focus on stopping RB Chris Brown and containing McNair. Browns offensive coordinator Maurice Carthon will put heavy emphasis this week on short-yardage situations, third-down conversions and red zone efficiency. Titans defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz will counter by loading up the box and forcing Dilfer to attack through the air by using a lot of seven- and eight-man fronts along with different defensive personnel packages. | ||

Tennessee (2-6) at Cleveland (2-5), Sunday 1:00 pm EST
CLEVELAND (Ticker) -- Cleveland Browns coach Romeo Crennel has a quarterback controversy.
After scoring a total of 29 points in their three-game losing streak, the Browns may be inclined to switch from veteran Trent Dilfer to rookie Charlie Frye. The move may come as soon as Sunday when the Browns host the Tennessee Titans.
Rookie wide receiver Braylon Edwards, the third overall pick in the draft, would like to see the Browns make a change.
"I think Charlie would bring a little more life, because he's younger and he has more spunk," Edwards told the Cleveland Plain Dealer. "It would just be a different attitude in terms of excitement and energy level, because he's a young guy getting his shot. I think that would be the difference."
The Browns scored just one touchdown in four trips inside the red zone in last week's 19-16 loss to previously winless Houston. Overall, they have only two touchdowns in 13 trips inside the opposition's 20-yard line.
The 33-year-old Dilfer completed just 12-of-25 passes for 185 yards and a touchdown in the loss to Houston. But the indelible memory from that game came in the final minute when Dilfer underthrew a pass in the end zone for Antonio Bryant, enabling Texans cornerback Phillip Buchanon to knock away the ball.
"I don't think anything is set in stone with what we're going to do," Crennel said when asked if he was contemplating making a change from Dilfer to Frye. "I'm not divulging which way I'm leaning."
Dilfer ranks 12th in the AFC in quarterback rating (76.9), ahead of only David Carr, Anthony Wright and Gus Frerotte.
A third-round pick out of Akron, Frye hopes to become the latest Mid-American Conference quarterback to succeed in the NFL, following Chad Pennington and Byron Leftwich of Marshall and Ben Roethlisberger of Miami (Ohio).
A four-year starter at Akron, Frye holds 54 school records, including career marks for passing yards (11,049) and completion percentage (63.6).
The Titans are solid at quarterback with Steve McNair, the co-Most Valuable Player in 2003, and Billy Volek, one of the league's top backups. Tennessee's defense is another story.
No AFC team has yielded more points than the Titans (211). They have allowed 30 or more points in five games, including last week's 34-25 loss to Oakland.
Rookie Adam "Pacman" Jones, the Titans' first-round pick and the first defensive player selected in the 2005 draft, has struggled. Last week, he was victimized on Jerry Porter's touchdown catches of 26 and 44 yards. Porter finished with six receptions for 123 yards.
Rookie Courtney Roby, a third-round pick, was a bright spot in last week's loss, catching seven passes for 83 yards.
Matchup to watch: Bryant, who had four catches for 98 yards last week, faces Jones.
Series: The Browns lead, 32-27, but the Titans have won five of the last seven meetings.
