49ers must contain JonesDetroit has been playing well enough to compete most of the season, and has established a two-game home winning streak. San Francisco comes to Detroit, following a great defensive effort against another NFC North team in the Minnesota Vikings.
Rod Marinelli continues to work to establish a winning atmosphere in the Lions' franchise, and Mike Nolan is in the second year of rebuilding the storied San Francisco 49ers franchise. The Lions' offense has been explosive at times, facing the 49ers' defense that kept Minnesota out of the end zone last week. |

San Francisco (3-5) at Detroit (2-6) Sunday 1:00 pm EST
DETROIT (Ticker) -- The Detroit Lions have not had a winning
streak since 2004. That could change Sunday when they host
the San Francisco 49ers.
Detroit has not put together consecutive wins since opening
the 2004 campaign with a 2-0 record.
After starting 0-5 this season under first-year coach Rod
Marinelli, the Lions have won two of their last three games,
including last week's surprising 30-14 victory over Atlanta.
The Lions received a trio of big offensive performances in the
win over the Falcons. Jon Kitna threw for 321 yards and a
touchdown, Kevin Jones rushed for 110 yards and two TDs, and Roy
Williams had six catches for 138 yards and a score.
Williams is the only receiver with four games of at least 130
yards receiving this season.
The seventh overall pick in the 2004 draft, Williams has 44
catches for 744 yards and four TDs overall.
It could be another big day for Williams, who faces the NFL's
last-ranked scoring defense. San Francisco allows 29.8 points
per game.
Last week, the Niners forced three turnovers in their best
defensive performance of the season, a 9-3 home victory over
Minnesota.
Niners coach Mike Nolan will be looking for improvement away
from home. His club has been outscored by a lopsided 116-37 in
losing their three road games.
