2011 NFL Power Rankings: Week 13
Who's No. 2?
It might seem like a strange question, but Green Bay's dominance has taken all the drama (and fun) out of the No. 1 spot. Does that mean Aaron Rodgers and the 11-0 Packers are shoo-ins to win the Super Bowl? Of course not, but they're clearly worthy of being called the best team in football.
So who deserves the distinction of being the NFL's second-best team? Well, there are plenty of qualified candidates. The 49ers have manned the No. 2 spot since Week 9, but our voters (ESPN.com's John Clayton, ESPN.com's Ashley Fox, AFC South blogger Paul Kuharsky, NFC West blogger Mike Sando and AFC East blogger James Walker) felt it was time for a change.
After shutting down San Francisco on Thanksgiving, the Ravens have jumped from No. 5 to No. 2, their highest plateau of the season. The 49ers are at No. 3, with the Saints and Steelers rounding out the top five.
Can you argue that New Orleans, winners of three in a row and coming off a Monday night rout of the Giants, deserves to be No. 2? Sure. What about New England (No. 6), a team many believe is on track to earn the AFC's No. 1 seed?
Opinions vary, but chances are the No. 2 spot will change hands some more in the coming weeks. For now, the pressure's on Baltimore to hold serve.
