2012 NFL Power Rankings: Week 4
As the late great Vince Lombardi famously said: "What the hell's going on out here?"
That pretty much sums up what has been happening atop our rankings. So far in 2012, being No. 1 has been a dicey proposition, perhaps even a curse. Just look at the Packers, Patriots and 49ers -- who all lost the same week they rose to the top.
Now, in their ongoing attempt to pick a winner, our voters (ESPN.com's John Clayton, ESPN.com's Ashley Fox, NFC East blogger Dan Graziano, AFC North blogger Jamison Hensley and NFC West blogger Mike Sando) have handed the reins to the 3-0 and seemingly stout Texans.
Will Houston, unlike its predecessors, show some staying power? It's hard to say, but Matt Schaub and Co. certainly look the part. They boast an elite defense and a balanced offense that can pretty much do it all.
The Texans host Tennessee in Week 4, followed by games at the Jets and versus Green Bay at home. Conventional wisdom says Houston can hang on for at least a week or two, but we know better than to make declarations.
Things have been just too unpredictable in the early going. Even Lombardi would be confounded.
