Here's why Panthers coach Ron Rivera jumped on the defense early in practice. "It wasn't good enough,'' Rivera said. "We weren't ready to play football, and that's baloney. I told the offense if that happens again just snap the ball. They've got to know who's in, what their calls are, they've got to line up. That's not acceptable, so I let him know it.''

Rookie kicker Roberto Aguayo made three straight field goal attempts before hitting the upright from 45 yards out just now. In college, he was a perfect 49-for-49 with kicks inside the 40 but made 72 percent of his kicks beyond the 40.

The Redskins announced that they have added former general manager Bobby Beathard to their Ring of Fame. Beathard was the architect during the Redskins Super Bowl runs in the 1980s. He later served five years as San Diego's general manager, helping build a team that also reached the Super Bowl. Beathard, on the right,is the 49th member of the Ring of Fame.

The skies in Richmond have darkened and a steady rain is falling. The Redskins practice at 3 p.m. and players have been told they'll have it rain or shine. But a thunderstorm would alter those plans. The Redskins do not practice Sunday so they want to get in this work.

Saints defense gets payback with CB Delvin Breaux grappling with WR Michael Thomas to make sure he doesn't reel in another one. Maybe would have drawn a flag, but they're not gonna let the rookie have it easy all camp.

Mike Reiss ESPN New England Patriots reporter

Rookie QB Jacoby Brissett carries the shoulder pads of Jimmy Garoppolo, as well as his own, after Saturday's practice. This is commonplace in New England, as rookies have extra freight on the way back to the locker room.

DeAndre Hopkins in a 'salary stare down'

Adam Schefter reports that DeAndre Hopkins' decision to leave training camp over contract negotiations puts the pressure on Houston's front office.

Rough start to training camp for kicker Adam Carpenter. Missed from 37 and 40 yards. Undrafted rookie Marshall Morgan was perfect.

Broncos nose tackle Sylvester Williams, who left Friday's practice with a shoulder injury, is on the field this morning, but will not practice. Defensive lineman Phil Taylor, who left Friday's practice with a knee injury, is not on the field.

Another terrific catch from Saints rookie WR Michael Thomas, who snatched an underthrown pass away from CB Brian Dixon. ... Lots of offensive highlights today, though there was at least one very strong PBU by Saints CB Damian Swann.

First play of offense vs defense in 7-on-7s this summer and ... Eli Manning throws INT. Picked off by LB Devon Kennard.

Texans leaned on Hopkins in 2015

Despite the erratic play of his quarterbacks last season, DeAndre Hopkins finished 3rd in the NFL in receptions and receiving yards and tied for 7th in receiving touchdowns.

Two more nifty catches from Saints TE Coby Fleener in full-team drills. Having by far the strongest practice I can recall this summer so far. Not that he was struggling before, but today he's very active.

Jamison Hensley ESPN Staff Writer

In first contact practice of camp, Ravens TE Dennis Pitta took a shot from LB Zachary Orr. He popped right up, a good sign in his comeback attempt.

Texans aren't about to fire Rick Smith anytime soon after giving him a four-year extension. That is leverage in waiting out Nuk holdout.

Maybe Jared Abbrederis heard Mike McCarthy's remark about keeping only five or six receivers. He's responded with a tremendous day. Snagged 14-yard TD from Aaron Rodgers in the back of the end zone over Morgan Burnett. He ripped it out of Burnett's hands.

Ravens DT Timmy Jernigan left the field midway through practice and did not return

David Newton ESPN Staff Writer

Fan wanting Cam Newton's autograph gets a bit out of control during practice. He threw a football onto the field (Devin Funchess returned it) and stepped through a planter onto the sideline, where team officials had to step in.
