Saints' Drew Brees said he thought after missed FG, maybe God intended his 400th career TD pass to be a game-winner, which it was. ... Brees said he tries not to focus on milestones like that, kind of like talking about a no-hitter, but also appreciates them.

Dilfer: Brees a ‘surgeon’ vs. Cowboys

Trent Dilfer says Drew Brees is one of the few players in the league that "has an innate ability, when things are crazy around them, to get calmer and quieter in their mind."

One thing Saints coach Sean Payton not pleased with after first win: the missed 30-yd FG late in regulation. They've missed three short kicks in a variety of ways, including extra points (block, dropped snap, doinked off upright). Payton said they need to look at that operation, might have to consider going for 2.

SAINTS 26, COWBOYS 20 (final): The good feelings of a fourth-down touchdown catch by Terrance Williams could last only so long. With some luck the Cowboys got to overtime but it didn't last long with C.J. Spiller's 80-yard TD on the second play of overtime. The Cowboys have lost two straight and welcome New England to AT&T Stadium next week.

A little perspective: Per Elias, this has been the worst week of NFL kicking since way back in … 2013. Deep breaths, everyone.

With the New Orleans win, the Lions -- for now -- are the lone winless team in the NFL. Detroit plays at Seattle tomorrow night.

SAINTS 26, COWBOYS 20 (FINAL, OT): The Saints (1-3) finally won their first game by finally getting an explosive play and finally working C.J. Spiller into the offense. Saints' Zach Hocker misses 30-yard field goal off left upright with a chance to win first game of the year. They're heading to overtime against Cowboys now.

Todd Archer ESPN Staff Writer

Fair to say the Cowboys season may have been saved by the left upright inside the Superdome? Zack Hocker's 30-yard try clanged off the bar and the game is headed to overtime.

Hocker's 30-yard FG is NO GOOD! Wow. What a game. #DALvsNO 20-20. We're going to OT.
