The Redskins' defense lacks some pieces, but what they don't have a shortage of is this: smarts. They have a lot of players who understand the game and know how to communicate it, from multiple players in the back end, as starters and reserves, to linebacker and up front. It's hard to say how far it can take them, but it can help them achieve more than another group that lacks similar parts.

Patriots G Jonathan Cooper, who had struggles with injuries with the Cardinals (2013-2015), has left practice this morning after appearing to injure his right foot/ankle. He was lining up with first-unit at right guard. He was helped off field by two athletic trainers, walking slowly, before being placed on a cart.

Fans love it when Cam Newton completes a deep pass to Devin Funchess over safety Kurt Coleman and cornerback James Worley. Coleman and Worley didn't love it so much, tugging at the ball for a few seconds after the catch.

The first play of team drills was a win for the defense as LB Shaq Thompson stripped the ball from Mike Tolbert. A few players later, the crowd cheered as Coach Ron Rivera jumped in the middle of a team drill and yelled at the defense for a lack of focus.

Ravens WR Chris Moore is not practicing Saturday after being a standout early in camp. No word on injury. Others not present: TE Crockett Gillmore (hamstring), RB Kenneth Dixon (knee) and six players on PUP (Terrell Suggs, Steve Smith, Elvis Dumervil, Breshad Perriman, Lorenzo Taliaferro and Trent Richardson).

One player who has been fun to watch mature: safety DeAngelo Hall. He's very smart at explaining coverages and schemes and the last few years in particular has revealed more veteran's wisdom. He's lasted long for a reason and they're trusting him at safety for the same reason. Guys like Hall and Will Blackmon can adapt to a new position this late in their career because they are smart.

First-round pick Kenny Clark won both of his reps in the 1-on-1 pass rushing drill today. He's unbeaten in five reps so far in camp, including twice against JC Tretter, who is the No. 1 center right now.

We've got a lightning delay here at Bucs camp. Players have left the field and fans are filing out of the stands. Per NFL rules, the earliest they'll be able to return to practice will be about 10:10 or so.

On a beautiful Saturday morning at Patriots training camp, a look at the crowd as the ramps to stadium have been opened to accommodate the overflow. Could be close to 20,000 by day's end.

Two practices for the Broncos today -- a 9:30 a.m. practice that is open to the public to go with an afternoon walk-through that is closed to the public. This morning's practice is the first weekend affair of training camp so it will be a good gauge of fan interest. Attendance has been down slightly, from last year, in the first two days of camp, including 3,407 fans Thursday (the first day). Last summer 4,025 fans attended the first practice of training camp. In 2015, the Broncos had 54,313 fans attend their 13 open training camp practices combined, an average of 4,178 per day. The total was an attendance record since the team returned to have training camp at its suburban Denver complex in 2005. Last year the team set a single-day attendance record for training camp when 5,507 fans attended the Aug. 7 practice.
