Jay Gruden: Kirk Cousins starter for 2015

The Redskins coach announced this morning that Cousins will be the team's starting QB for the season. Cousins got the job over Robert Griffin III, who's been dealing with injuries on and off since 2012.

Undrafted rookie placekicker Corey Acosta, a camp leg for the 49ers who converted all four of his field goal attempts this preseason, announced on Twitter he has been cut. No surprise there, given the presence of veteran Phil Dawson. But Acosta acquitted himself well, especially with his 50-yard FG Saturday night in Denver. Dawson, though, is 40 years old and in a contract year so Acosta could be called upon next season, unless rookie punter Bradley Pinion can pull off double duty.

Ryan Clark says Rex Ryan's decision to start Taylor is about potential: “You know what you have with those other guys. … Here’s the guy with the most upside.”

Jameis Winston has sprained ankle

The Bucs QB was initially hurt in the second preseason game but still saw action into the third quarter in the third game on Saturday. OC Dirk Koetter said the ankle is affecting Winston's play "a little bit," but added that he'd be "full speed" by the regular-season opener.

In surprising move, Bills cut jackson

RB Fred Jackson was released by Buffalo today. His time in the Bills' backfield dates back to 2007, but his last 1,000-yard rushing season was 2009. At 34, he was the oldest running back in the NFL.

Giants sign safety Stevie Brown

With injuries at the position to rookie Mykkele Thompson, Bennett Jackson and Nat Berhe, New York turns to a familiar face in Brown. He started 8 games for the Giants last year and rejoins the team after the Texans cut him this week.

Age, not experience, for Tyrod Taylor

With Taylor expected to start Buffalo's opener against Indianapolis, the 26-year-old would be the oldest QB to make his first career start in a season opener since Brandon Weeden did so at age 28 in 2012 for the Browns. (via Elias)

All teams have to be down to 75 players by Tuesday at 4 pm ET, but some teams are already at that limit.

Tyrod Taylor wins Bills' QB race

Taylor beat out EJ Manuel and Matt Cassel for Buffalo's job, as first reported by Fox Sports. This comes as a mild surprise considering the Bills used a first-round pick on Manuel in 2013 and Taylor's lack of experience (0 career NFL starts) compared to Cassel (71 career starts).
