NFL Coach Approval Ratings - Week 11
Week:
This NFL season, we're giving you, SportsNation, the opportunity to cast your vote of approval, or disapproval, of the job your favorite team's head coach is doing. Is he molding a winning team and inspiring championship-level play from his team? Or is he constantly tinkering with the offense and defense resulting in sloppy, erratic play? Is he making good decisions on the field and saying all the right things off the field? Or is he making crucial mistakes that cost the team games and then deflecting the blame?
The following are the latest results from the 2009 SportsNation NFL Head Coach Approval Ratings:
| NFL Coach Approval Ratings - Week 11 | |
Jim Caldwell | Colts 35, Patriots 34 backyardgame: Belichick just proved tonight who is considered the best QB -- Peyton Manning. GFitzy7: I'm a Colts fan, and when we had them stopped on 3rd down the thought of them going for it actually crossed my mind before they even did it. I actually wished they would have punted, because once the ball is in Manning's hands I really have no doubts about our ability to score, especially in comeback situations. pacerpride35: NE is three back, Indianapolis holds the tiebreaker and sits in the driver's seat. Vote |
Marvin Lewis | Bengals 18, Steelers 12 muffinreturns: Nice timeout right there. It is amazing how many coaches don't understand how to use the clock at the end of the game. Now you get two clock stops for the price of one time out. grimleaper05: When Carson hands it off it makes me a nervous wreck every time! Vote |
Sean Payton | Saints 28, Rams 23 Shanelsufan: We giftwrapped this game for the Rams, but they didn't seem to want it. BoOtto97: The Saints have played so poorly in their last four games you could call it a slump, yet they've gone 4-0. therealacevenom: The Saints really need their secondary to get better. Vote |
Ken Whisenhunt | Cardinals 31, Seahawks 20 joe.battaglia2: Arizona kept this game way too close. They'd better learn not to play down to their competition. Vote |
Mike Singletary | 49ers 10, Bears 6 pdxtomct: San Francisco might as well start thinking about the post-Singletary era because they aren't going to win many games scoring 10 points! Their offense lacks imagination. And the defense isn't getting five picks against any decent quarterback. Vote |
Tony Sparano | Dolphins 25, Buccaneers 23 iceman419: Someone please tell me why Sparano shouldn't be on the hot seat next year? He may have rookies starting but he has shown that he can't coach well. He doesn't blitz the passer, he passes more than runs and he seems to be a player coach than a football coach. YankeesandDolphinsFan13: This team is horrible in the 2nd half. Absolutely pathetic! Vote |
Gary Kubiak | Bye week for Texans Vote |
Jeff Fisher | Titans 41, Bills 17 justopin: If nothing else, VY makes the defense leery every play of what might be coming ... No. 10 could be comeback player of the year if he stays within himself. Twisted_Titan: If the Titans continue to play smart, conservative football, we have an excellent chance to win out. I wouldn't exactly say Collins was the problem, but with him getting replaced by Young it let the other players know they can get benched as well, plus VY just opens the playbook up. myers1919: The Titans are going to the playoffs. I have a crazy feeling about that. Would that be the biggest turnaround in NFL history if they pulled it off? Vote |
Brad Childress | Vikings 27, Lions 10 abercrombieco2: Favre is looking more and more like an MVP every game. BuntforHits: In an effort to manage Brett's health over the second-half stretch, Vikes coaches would be smart to prepare Tavaris to take fourth-quarter snaps against Seattle and Chicago while at home. If the Vikes have 17 point-plus leads in those games, and that is a big IF, Tavaris should play. Brett has been tremendous; never would have guessed that it would turn out this good. Vote |
Jack Del Rio | Jaguars 24, Jets 22 napfan75: Not scoring from the one might have come back to haunt the Jags. manning2stokely Good to see Jacksonville give the ball to MJD a bit more than they have before. Vote |
John Harbaugh | Ravens 16, Browns 0 phatgam: Ravens have two games left with the Steelers. Both games could be very low scoring and very close. The fact is, either team could sweep the other, and probably will. Vote |
Mike Tomlin | Bengals 18, Steelers 12 richfinshu: Both defenses are great, we know that, but this has been an absolutely embarrassing effort by the Steelers offense, I don't think anyone would disagree. Vote |
Jim Schwartz | Vikings 27, Lions 10 MyToad: Stafford has been thrown to the Lions, no pun intended. I hope Detroit doesn't ruin his career. SychoWarde: Why does the NFL even bother televising Lions games, let alone allowing them to even exist as a professional football team? Vote |
Norv Turner | Chargers 31, Eagles 23 garnolfini: LT is one hit from retirement. Still, it's good to see old man score a TD once in a while. Vote |
Steve Spagnuolo | Saints 28, Rams 23 bulgerfan10lj: The Saints gave the Rams opportunities, but they couldn't do anything with them. GetEmHornets: Steven Jackson has worn himself down. That's it for the Rams run game. Vote |
John Fox | Panthers 28, Falcons 19 tsbein: Jake Delhomme doesn't feel right unless he throws an INT. chuccwhite: Don't let the record fool anyone ... the Panthers aren't sorry ... just had bad breaks. Vote |
Mike Smith | Panthers 28, Falcons 19 XELOR01: Falcons continue their streak of no back to back winning seasons. ryc30078: Ryan has been subpar ever since the second half of last year, yet the media keeps drooling over this guy. TimHawk0: Matt Ryan looks terrible. Vote |
Bill Belichick | Colts 35, Patriots 34 Belichick's fourth down try backfires; Colts win in final seconds Ambelgra: It's only a dumb move because they didn't execute. If they convert, Belichick is a genius for being the aggressor. Think of it this way, playcalling is dictated by previous outcomes. Maybe Belichick felt more comfortable going for it and keeping the Colts off the field instead of putting pressure on his defense. GridPig: BB showed no respect for Indy's D and less for Indy's O. Does he think he's playing against pee wee leaguers? muffinreturns: I don't know why they wasted two timeouts in the last 3 minutes. Just mystifying. Had BB saved one of those, he could have challenged and possibly have gotten that first down. And I have to ask why the fudge is Brady throwing outs on 3rd and 4th and 2 - give it to Faulk on 3rd if you are going to go for it on 4th as well. A short out is asking for a pick 6. VokDTM: Belichick made the right call going for that 4th down. The Pats offense should be able to get those two yards. Plus, the Colts were shredding the Pats defense at that point. Keep in mind that the Colts offense had to waste time because it was taking them so little time to move the ball. The Colts had just gone 79 yards in 1:49 on their last drive. Punting there gains you nothing but a longer scoring drive from the Colts. Belichick gave his team a chance to win and they didn't come through. whallonj: Belichick's arrogance finally caught up to him. Not punting in that situation was crazy. Even crazier was the play they chose to run. If i had to make a play call in that situation i would have given it to Maroney or Faulk offtackle. formido: Yep, I see several other people here have brains. Bill Belichick made the right call. It was just a tough break. All his choices were bad ones. He had the guts to not make the "safe" choice. Often in life the safe choice is the most risky. goddzgift314: I like the call to go for it but the bigger issue was all the wasted timeouts. If they have timeouts left they probably end up getting Brady about 1 minute left to get a field goal. The reason you don't normally go for it in that area of the field is because it concedes a field goal but if the team needs a TD it really doesn't make a difference unless time would have been an issue but it wasn't. I wish more coaches would make the call that gives them the best chance to win and not the one that deflects the blame. Vote |
Josh McDaniels | Redskins 27, Broncos 17 ohiokris: we can all thank Baltimore for the blueprint on how to beat a team that's all smoke and mirrors. kmf112287: Good game by the 'Skins, but Denver really needs Orton in there, Simms is terrible. Vote |
Todd Haley | Chiefs 16, Raiders 10 Rick.Johnson: Haley has an OK team if he'd just get out of the way. SlayA100: What is it about the Raiders that makes teams want to pass 40 times against them? Vote |
Tom Coughlin | Bye week for Giants Vote |
Jim Zorn | Redskins 27, Broncos 17 SadPanda7: Campbell was the better QB on the field today. Brojon316: Man, Santana Moss was non-existent in the 'Skins offense today though. Their big play offense from Moss needs to get back into the fray. Vote |
Raheem Morris | Dolphins 25, Buccaneers 23 badbadmonkey: I hope Raheem blasts the Refs after the game, I understand they are TRYING to get it right, I just don't see how they can make that call. scottjl1970: That bad call in the first half cost the Bucs. They lost focus at the end of the first half. Too bad Vote |
Rex Ryan | Jaguars 24, Jets 22 TianxaShu: What a farce, today's Jets game. Sad. Come on, you really want to lose a winnable game? Do ya hate running the ball? HellRaiser4Life70: This team is done for the year, they can't beat anyone anymore. Sanchez and Cutler should get together so they can learn off each other how to achieve a higher interception rate. frederickkruger: The Jets were a better team under Mangini. Vote |
Mike McCarthy | Packers 17, Cowboys 7 Brockwell10: McCarthy is a horrible coach. Anytime you have first and goal from the 3 or closer, let your back carry it three times. McCarthy should be fired after this year. GB has too much talent to be this average. jrewers01: Green Bay played the best I have seen them play this year. Vote |
Wade Phillips | Packers 17, Cowboys 7 Spurmike: Today was a shame. A game the Cowboys should have easily won and they came out and couldn't do anything on offense. barislandrock: Green Bay's D didn't win this game ... that joke of an offensive coordinator Jason Garrett lost this game. Vote |
Jim L. Mora | Cardinals 31, Seahawks 20 jdlund327: Seattle fans, it could be worse. At least you are better than the Rams or the Bucs. TwistedT76: Playing a prevent D before half time completely messed up this game for the Hawks. Vote |
Andy Reid | Chargers 31, Eagles 23 andykovatch: Reid and McNabb have both been given ample opportunity to win the big one and only reached the Super Bowl one time. JustKeepWinningBaby: Third and one and they call McNabb to run backwards? TruBlu328: For the team Reid has he's not utilizing everybody the way he should be. Mick Vick needs to be implemented in the offense better. Get rid of the West Coast and let McNabb throw the ball down field. Open up the playbook and quit being so conservative. Vote |
Lovie Smith | 49ers 10, Bears 6 BeWareofDWare_94: It's pretty funny thinking back to the preseason when Bears fans thought Cutler actually made them a contender. ilstu07: Do any Chicago fans find it to be a coincidence that two former Bears who were hated in town are now having career years? I don't think it matters who you put at QB for the Bears, it is an organizational issue. bobedwards: I am growing more convinced that Chicago gave up the better QB in the off-season blockbuster trade. Of course the defense is not helping and neither is the predicable vanilla OC. The press got what they wanted in a glamour QB and the fans lost their team identity. Vote |
Tom Cable | Chiefs 16, Raiders 10 24bauer1: Russell continues to prove himself utterly worthless. stillkeggy: As a Raiders fan I am absolutely embarrassed to claim them as my favorite team. Vote |
Eric Mangini | Ravens 16, Browns 0 johnr125: You can't put blame for this loss on the defense! If anyone spent as much time on the field as they are those people would be tired and frustrated as well. jacunn2000: Mangini will never get another job as a head coach. And he really should not even be allowed to run the chains at a Pop Warner game. MobileInfantry7: I'm embarrassed to be a fan of this poorly run, once proud and successful organization. Vote |
Perry Fewell | Johnson torches Bills for 232 total, 2 TDs to help Titans to 3rd straight win NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Chris Johnson ran for 132 yards and two touchdowns, and he caught nine passes for 100 more and the Tennessee Titans beat the Buffalo Bills 41-17 Sunday for their third straight victory. The Titans (3-6) are on a roll since opening the season 0-6, and they can thank Johnson, the NFL's leading rusher and the league's first back to top 1,000 yards this season. They introduced him last, and he ran out carrying an American flag to a roar from the sold-out crowd. Johnson quickly is becoming Vince Young's favorite target whether he's tossing Johnson short passes or pitching to him off the option. Young also threw for a touchdown and finished with 210 yards passing in winning his seventh straight start. He also ran five times for 29 yards. Buffalo (3-6) got Trent Edwards back and rookie Jairus Byrd picked off a pass in a fifth straight game. But the Bills lost their second straight. ... Vote |
