NFL Coach Approval Ratings - Week 4
Week:
This NFL season, we're giving you, SportsNation, the opportunity to cast your vote of approval, or disapproval, of the job your favorite team's head coach is doing. Is he molding a winning team and inspiring championship-level play from his team? Or is he constantly tinkering with the offense and defense resulting in sloppy, erratic play? Is he making good decisions on the field and saying all the right things off the field? Or is he making crucial mistakes that cost the team games and then deflecting the blame?
The following are the latest results from the 2009 SportsNation NFL Head Coach Approval Ratings:
| NFL Coach Approval Ratings - Week 4 | |
Mike Singletary | 49ers 35, Rams 0 skcowin: Granted it's the Rams ... but the 49ers look tough. Jdzspace:The Niners are tough regardless of how strong the Rams may or may not be. Vote |
Sean Payton | Saints 24, Jets 10 RUBBERBOOTSIE: Just like you give credit to the Jets defense, you need to give credit to the Saints defense. PaulGarnAllen: the Saints are a nasty team this year. They are scary. Jets are just plain overmatched in this game and as a 3-0 team that's saying a lot for the Saints. I think even the Patriots would have trouble beating the Saints. Vote |
Jim Caldwell | Colts 34, Seahawks 17 squisherghost: Peyton Manning: 2009 MVP JDTigerdog33: Peyton is the man. He makes receivers great! Vote |
Josh McDaniels | Broncos 17, Cowboys 10 Saints 24, Jets 10 brandonroyal: Still think the Denver defense is overrated? ElsGolf: Denver's punter has been their best player. DoPeChiLL: Champ Bailey is a man amongst boys. Vote |
Tom Coughlin | Giants 27, Chiefs 16 tsbein: I still don't understand why the Giants waived Michael Matthews and kept Darcy Johnson. Johnson has missed blocking assignments in more than one game already. gigantesfanaticos: Eli sure can frustrate you. He makes the tough throws but misses the easy ones. 1wushock: You still may not be able to determine if the Giants have improved. The Chiefs are pathetic and it is hard to measure yourself against them. Vote |
Jim Schwartz | Bears 48, Lions 24 lefty547: Man, no kidding, you gotta give the Lions some love... they're really playing ball today. Larsbars08: I'm impressed with what Schwartz has done in Detroit. jwjackson2: Back to your losing ways, Detroit! Vote |
Lovie Smith | Bears 48, Lions 24 apallday2809: Bears ST are really good, but their run and pass offense is looking suspect! WINGS_OWN_NHL: One main defensive adjustment for the Bears was putting Tillman on Johnson in the second half. Bowman was playing Johnson, in the 1st half, and got burned more than once. Bowman is solid. He just doesn't match up well with Johnson. Vote |
John Harbaugh | Patriots 27, Ravens 21 ptglj517: Why didn't the Ravens rush the football more? Rice was running all over the place. Jon_Young: The Patriots DID NOT shut down the last drive. Clayton simply didn't catch the ball that hit him right in the numbers. That wasn't a GOOD play for the Patriots, it was a BAD Play for the Ravens. A good play for the Patriots would have included a defender close enough to stop him from making the catch. BigPuppyRules: Harbaugh was far more responsible for this loss than the refs. Vote |
Mike Smith | Bye week for Falcons! Vote |
Rex Ryan | Saints 24, Jets 10 THEBOOTGUY: As I said from the beginning of the week, the Jets fall from the ranks of the undefeated with a resounding THUD! nyjetsrule877: Just because Mark Sanchez is singlehandedly giving this game to the Saints does NOT make the Jets garbage. The Jets are good this year weather they win this game or not. Keep in mind they don't have two of their top three DBs. They have a good shot at the playoffs. Vote |
Tony Sparano | Dolphins 38, Bills 10 ronnied81: Is it possible to be this pathetic? The Fish have an awful QB (Henne) that came from an even worse school. FinsFan982: Not sure they're legit, and it is just the Bills, but great win for Miami. Vote |
Mike Tomlin | Steelers 38, Chargers 28 hunteressthompson: Are the Steelers out of shape? Every game they seem to start with a strong lead that they just allow to collapse in the fourth quarter. HouseOfSchteek: No doubt Tomlin is going to work the defense hard this week in practice. tjtaylr: No doubt that Troy needs to be back ASAP for this D. He is the leader and the D goes as he goes. Vote |
Bill Belichick | Patriots 27, Ravens 21 lilfab18: Those roughing calls were only called because of Brady's previous injury. It seems like they have been treating him like a baby since he came back. transparenthuman6: And Kaczur just stands there without blocking anyone. Line is having problems in the running game...no surprise. Vote |
Marvin Lewis | Bengals 23, Browns 20 blckbmw20: Marvin Lewis needs to give Cedric Benson the ball! Lionsarejustsad: Long snappers don't come a dime a dozen, but honestly, this is just unbelievably frustrating. Game is over if they could simply convert a simple PAT. Andheez: Cincinnati is playing into 3rd and long EVERY TIME. Terrible play calling. Vote |
Jack Del Rio | Jaguars 37, Titans 17 Jacksonvillejagsr: The Jaguars are not terrible. Last year we were hurt by the Titans knocking out three of our starting offensive linemen in the first game. NashvilleJay: Congrats to the Jags. The Titans chose to snooze and lose. Vote |
Andy Reid | Bye week for Eagles! Vote |
Gary Kubiak | Texans 29, Raiders 6 TexansForLife2234: Great win by Houston ... wish it was against a better team, though. kucerajad: I'm glad the Texans played well, but they can't get too big-headed with this game. Kubiak frequently plays not to lose. Good win for Texans, now, on to Phoenix for a serious challenge. Vote |
Brad Childress | Vikings 30, Packers 23 jasonengel76: Brett Favre is showing the whole world that he still has the magic and the arm to compete at any level in the NFL. What Brett Favre has done in the league these last few years is nothing short of a testament to what he has accomplished in his elusive career in the NFL. The Vikings are undefeated because Brett Favre is a leader in the locker room as well as on the field. When you can go out and have fun every week and still lead your team to victory at the golden age of forty, then you are already a legend in my eyes. teben33: Well of all the Vikings areas, the areas that need improvement start in the secondary, and end in the secondary. Other than that, they are quite complete. WRs are not nearly as bad as what people seem to think ... a lot more talent at WR than people realize, and they are young and will only get better - Harvin will find his niche and Rice is improving, and Berrian fills his role. Vikings are solid enough on the defensive line and LB to absorb some of the young and inexperienced secondary Vikings secondary. PackerRudy: Most of you are prisoners of the moment, like most fans are. The minute Brett stinks it up with a 3-4 pick game, I'll visit this site and hear the calls for Tarvaris or Sage. I just hope for Favre's sake the same old 16 year old Viking hatred towards him doesn't rear its ugly head again at him if he doesn't get them to the Super Bowl. Vote |
Ken Whisenhunt | Bye week for Cardinals! Vote |
Mike McCarthy | Vikings 30, Packers 23 brinhughes: Picture Aaron Rodgers playing with his Brett Favre action figures in the back of the bus on the long ride home to Green Bay. hottypete: The Packers receivers are perhaps the best in the league and the Vikings cornerbacks were badly overmatched. Rodgers is an accurate passer who, if allowed time, would throw completions to these receivers all day regardless of the coverage. So rather than attempt to reinforce pass coverage, the Vikings forced Rodgers to make mistakes. The offensive line appeared overmatched because Rodgers' ability to read the defense and handle the pass rush is the Packers weakness. This results in a combination of long passes when he guesses right, and sacks or turnovers when he guesses wrong. This then statistically results in a high QB rating and a loss. LakertotheGrave:A second-year starter, facing one of the most fearsome pass rushes in the NFL, with no running game, and no offensive line, somehow gets blamed for under-performing when he throws for 400 yards, 2 TDs and his only pick of the season after a MONTH of play. Some fans are truly ridiculous.. Vote |
Jim L. Mora | Colts 34, Seahawks 17 rkid9: The Seahawks are done! They should have drafted a quarterback or gotten Jeff Garcia. Unless they have a real quarterback they will not win another game all year. JoetheSh0w: Why even field a defense? The Colts are moving the ball like they're not even there. Vote |
Steve Spagnuolo | 49ers 35, Rams 0 VIGMAN30: Are the Rams going to match the '08 Lions with an 0-16 record? Jdzspace: SHUTOUT CITY, population: Rams. Vote |
Jeff Fisher | Jaguars 37, Titans 17 FLBiker714: I was willing to give Tennessee the shadow of the doubt after getting beat by the Steelers in a close one, then the Texans in a close one, and then to my Jets. But now getting blown out by the Jaguars? This team is done. TitansinSB08: They aren't going to put Vince Young in, they don't want to ''ruin'' his confidence. I think it's worse keeping him on the sidelines instead of allowing him to at least play. nellyinctown: You are what your record is. Good teams would make that one play in each game to win them. Titans didn't and are 0-4. Vote |
Todd Haley | Giants 27, Chiefs 16 jayhawk21122112: We (KC) were really solid when Marty was running the show. Almost NEVER missed the playoffs, TOUGH, TOUGH, TOUGH at Arrowhead, now. It's frustrating but they are still my team. blk219: What happened to Bowe? He's a disappointment week in and week out. He should do KC a favor and bench himself for the rest of the year. Vote |
Jim Zorn | Redskins 16, Buccaneers 13 giantimage: Those redskins are terrible. Dan Synder is going to explode. bigmule: Campbell looks normal to me. Vote |
Raheem Morris | Redskins 16, Buccaneers 13 BucsFan1086: Can't believe how bad the Buccaneers are this year ... losing to this awful Redskins team? Please. gatorba1t15: With the first pick in the 2010 NFL Draft the Tampa Bay Buccaneers select... SportsFan_1st_and_10: The Bucs may not win in Philly this week, but it will be close because their defense is starting to click from turnovers to run stops. The offense, if it sticks to the gameplan of run first and pass second, will also improve. Interesting to see how long Morris keeps his job. Vote |
Eric Mangini | Bengals 23, Browns 20 CincyCake: Hopefully LeBron never leaves the Cavaliers, but if he does what will Cleveland cheer about then? ml5890: So that is what a touchdown looks like? I almost forgot. freuds09: Cribbs is the only one who can score and gain serious yards for our team. Vote |
John Fox | Bye week for Panthers! Vote |
Norv Turner | Steelers 38, Chargers 28 cjmjmm2006: San Diego fought hard and it looks like they have a nice team. MC3DPCS: It's gonna be a long bye week in San Diego. Vote |
Tom Cable | Texans 29, Raiders 6 lovan66: Russell will be out of the NFL in two years. jonnyc302: I think Oakland needs to evaluate the front office and coaching staff. JaMarcus is a good quarterback who doesn't have any idea of the fundamentals of the game. He throws of his back foot 90 percent of the time. He has a world class arm and no leadership to take the team to the next level. Texans win by 21. If you have JaMarcus in Fantasy Football drop him immediately. fahey54: I personally vote that we put Al Davis in at running back and let him get rocked ... then maybe we will get a new owner. Vote |
Wade Phillips | Broncos 17, Cowboys 10 rscott.r.i: Romo has to keep the ball down, Three straight plays where we could have marched down the field and he screwed it up. I've been really supportive of him in the past, but man you gotta step up and make these throws down the stretch. One more TD and this game is over with the way our defense is playing today. raider0409: Cowboys need Felix, man. Felix Jones is what keeps the defenses honest. ElsGolf: Dallas as a team has been good enough to be 4-0 right now. Tony Romo gave away the Giants game with awful INTs, and he gave away this game with inaccuracy. The cowboys had open WRs all over the place and Romo was awful. Vote |
Perry Fewell | Dolphins hammer Bills on ground to tune of 250 yards, 3 TDs to pick up first win MIAMI -- The Miami Dolphins finally won at keepaway. With quarterback Chad Henne making his first NFL start, the Dolphins controlled the ball for 37 minutes and earned their first victory by beating hapless Buffalo 38-10 on Sunday. The Dolphins came into the game 0-3 despite a strong running attack and an 11-minute edge per game in time of possession. Against Buffalo (1-3), Miami ran for 250 yards and mounted scoring drives of 65, 66 and 65 yards. The Dolphins were 11-for-19 on third- and fourth-down conversions -- a category in which they already led the league. Henne, a second-year pro, shook off six sacks and managed the game well in his first start replacing Chad Pennington, sidelined by a season-ending shoulder injury. Henne finished 14-for-22 for 115 yards and no turnovers, and he threw his first NFL touchdown pass, a 5-yarder to rookie Brian Hartline. Wildcat success helped Henne. The Dolphins used the formation nine times for 58 yards, including a 38-yard run by Ronnie Brown, their longest gain this season. Brown ran for 115 yards and two touchdowns, and Ricky Williams added 85 and one score. The 28-point margin of victory was Miami's largest since Sept. 8, 2002. The injury-plagued Bills gave up 31 points in a ... Vote |
