Dickerson: Peterson needs a QB
Hall of Famer Eric Dickerson says he can sympathize with running back Adrian Peterson, who has had to deal with an unsettled quarterback situation with the Minnesota Vikings, just as Dickerson had to for much of his career.

It's hardly new to say Adrian Peterson needs more help from the passing game, but the parallel between him and Eric Dickerson is an intriguing one, writes Ben Goessling. Blog
"He really needs a quarterback; that would make it a lot easier on him," Dickerson told the (St. Paul) Pioneer Press in a telephone interview Monday. "[The Vikings' quarterback situation is] terrible. I've been there. I mean, I've been so frustrated that when we completed a pass downfield I wanted to be like the people in the stands, jumping up and down and saying 'Way to go.'
"It's hard to watch. It's extremely tough [for Peterson]. It's frustrating. It's not that Christian Ponder isn't trying his best, but they don't have any receivers. It's just hard on [Peterson]. I mean, he won't say it as a player. But it's frustrating to walk to the line of scrimmage and see eight in the box, sometimes nine," he told the newspaper.
Peterson finished 8 yards shy of Dickerson's season record of 2,105 in 2012. He predicted he would rush for 2,500 yards before this season but has just 851 yards in 10 games.
Dickerson told the newspaper he plans to reach out to Peterson soon to express his support.
"I'm going to reach out to him and say, 'Keep your head up. You're having a great year. I know the season is not going like you want it to. But just stay healthy,'" he told the newspaper.
In his 11-season career, Dickerson never had continuity at the quarterback position for the teams he played. Among the quarterbacks to start for the Los Angeles Rams, Indianapolis Colts and Los Angeles Raiders when Dickerson was starting in the backfield were Vince Ferragamo, Jeff Kemp, Dieter Brock, Steve Dils, Jim Everett, Chris Chandler, Jack Trudeau, Jeff George, Jay Schroeder and Todd Marinovich.
The Vikings (2-8) have started three quarterbacks this season -- Ponder, Matt Cassel and Josh Freeman -- and coach Leslie Frazier has yet to name a starter for Sunday's game against the Green Bay Packers.
