Emmanuel Sanders questionable
PITTSBURGH -- Wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders and linebacker Terence Garvin may play Sunday despite sustaining knee injuries that knocked each out of the Steelers' 38-31 win Sunday against the Green Bay Packers.
Sanders did not play in the second half after scoring a touchdown and setting up a field goal with a 47-yard kick return. An MRI did not reveal any serious damage to Sanders' knee. He was injured while running a pattern on the muddy playing surface at Lambeau Field. Sanders sprained his lateral meniscus.
Garvin also sprained his knee, but coach Mike Tomlin said the Steelers are "leaving the light on" for both to play against the visiting Cleveland Browns in the regular-season finale.
Wide receiver Markus Wheaton, who played for Sanders in the second half at Green Bay, broke a finger against the Packers but will try to play through the injury with a splint. The rookie will also tape the ailing digit to another finger.
Outside linebacker Jarvis Jones is "looking better," Tomlin said, after missing the Green Bay game because of the flu. He will probably be limited in practice this week, as will outside linebacker Jason Worilds.
Worilds is working through an abdominal injury that limited his playing time in the second half against the Packers. The late scratch of Jones and Worilds' injury left the Steelers with just one outside linebacker.
"They were above the line," Tomlin said Monday at his weekly news conference. "Thankfully we had a couple of guys that have been around, like Carter and Sylvester, that know the drill. They really did a nice job of heaping that work on top of their normal work on special teams."
Outside linebacker won't be the only position that the Steelers will monitor closely this week. Sanders is questionable, and if Wheaton has a setback, the Steelers will also be thin at receiver.
Tomlin said it is too early to tell whether injuries will provide an opportunity for Derek Moye.
Moye, who gives the Steelers a big target at wideout, hasn't suited up since an Oct. 20 win over the Baltimore Ravens. The 6-foot-5, 210-pounder has two catches for 20 yards and a touchdown in six games.
