The 49ers placed the former Super Bowl hero on injured reserve Friday. He did not play Monday night in their win against Atlanta.
Earlier Friday, coach Jim Harbaugh said he didn't think Manningham, the 49ers' No. 3 receiver, would play Sunday at Arizona and that Manningham would consult with physicians to do what was best for his career.
Manningham, who signed with the 49ers as a free agent in 2012 after helping the New York Giants win Super Bowl XLVI, will become a free agent in March. He had just nine catches this season, though he missed the first eight games while recovering from his injury.
Still, when he played this season, he appeared to be at less than full speed. When Michael Crabtree returned from a torn Achilles on Dec. 1, Manningham's playing time dwindled.
The 49ers have yet to announce his replacement on the 53-man roster.
