NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Tennessee Titans coach Ken Whisenhunt is reuniting with defensive coordinator Ray Horton.

Horton has reached an agreement to run the Titans' defense under Whisenhunt, the team announced Monday.

Horton was defensive coordinator under Whisenhunt with the Arizona Cardinals from 2011-12.

Horton is rooted in a 3-4 defense and ran one for the Cardinals. Whisenhunt said at his introductory news conference that the Titans would run a hybrid front with elements of both a 3-4 and 4-3, but that they would not be a 2-gapping 3-4 defense.

In 2013, Horton was defensive coordinator of the Cleveland Browns, who ranked ninth overall in total defense and 23rd in points allowed. After Rob Chudzinski was fired as Browns coach, Horton became a head-coaching candidate. He interviewed in Minnesota, which hired Cincinnati defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer.

After a playing career in which he was a cornerback, Horton has had coaching stops with Washington, Cincinnati, Detroit, Pittsburgh as well as the Cardinals and Browns.
