Falcons sign Gabe Carimi
Carimi battled knee problems in Chicago and never panned out. He was traded to Tampa Bay in exchange for a sixth-round draft pick.
The Falcons obviously hope reuniting Carimi with new offensive line coach Mike Tice will help rejuvenate his career. Tice was Carimi's offensive line coach with the Bears.
Tice's son, Nathan, played at Wisconsin with Carimi. Current Falcon Peter Konz also was a teammate of Carimi with the Badgers.
The Falcons are not finished addressing their offensive line issues and could target linemen in both free agency and the draft. Adding a guard in free agency seems to be a priority, while top tackles such as Jake Matthews and Greg Robinson seem appealing in the draft.
Carimi played both tackle and guard for the Bears.
The Falcons on Tuesday also released Garrett Reynolds, who lost his starting job at right guard in 2013 to Konz.
