Phil Dawson re-signs with Niners
Very excited & grateful for the opportunity to return to my team & be a part of chasing the quest for six! Go niners! #itsgood- Phil Dawson (@phil_dawson_4) March 11, 2014
Dawson, 39, had a tremendous first season with San Francisco after spending 14 seasons with the Cleveland Browns.
Dawson made 32 of 36 field goal attempts and had a streak of 27 in a row at one point in the season. He had multiple game-winners in the final moments, including at Green Bay in the wild-card playoff round in frigid weather.
Dawson gave San Francisco a consistency at kicker they didn't have previously with David Akers. During the season, 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh said "pay the man" when asked about Dawson's contract status.
Dawson had said multiple times he wanted to return to the 49ers.
ESPN.com 49ers reporter Bill Williamson contributed to this report.
