Ravens to keep LB Daryl Smith
More from ESPN.com
Considering how the market has played out, the Ravens couldn't afford losing Daryl Smith, Jamison Hensley writes. Story
Smith, 31, was the reason no one talked about the Ravens missing Ray Lewis in 2013.
Signed in June after Rolando McClain retired, Smith finished with 123 tackles, five sacks, three interceptions, 19 passes defensed and two forced fumbles. He also returned an interception 37 yards for a game-turning touchdown in a 30-9 victory over Houston.
It was a bounce-back season for Smith, who played in only two games for the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2012 because of a sports hernia.
A second-round pick by Jacksonville in 2004, Smith left as the Jaguars' all-time leading tackler. He hasn't been to a Pro Bowl despite producing consistently good numbers (he averaged 103 tackles a season from 2009 to 2011).
