The St. Louis Rams have signed former Florida State standout Greg Reid, the cornerback told ESPN.com.

Reid has had two knee operations since August 2012 to repair a torn ACL. But the 23-year-old has recovered from the surgeries, a source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

Reid told ESPN.com that he signed with the Rams on Saturday, two days after the team hosted him for a private workout. Reid said he had his knee examined last Wednesday.

"It's a blessing. It's really a blessing," he told ESPN.com. "It's the first step of what I got going on in my life. I'm blessed and happy but I know I'm going to really get the point and understand once I put on the pads. I'm blessed now and I look at it as another step -- just one of the steps I have to take."

Reid starred at Florida State for three years as a cornerback and was one of the nation's best punt returners before being kicked off the team prior to the 2012 season for a violation of team rules.

Following his dismissal from Florida State, Reid transferred to Division II Valdosta State, where he initially suffered the knee injury during a scrimmage. Reid needed a second surgery on the ACL last May, forcing him to forgo the 2013 NFL draft.

Reid attended Florida State's pro day last week. He led the nation in punt return average as a freshman and needed 313 yards to break Deion Sanders' Florida State record of 1,429 yards on punt returns.

ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter, ESPN.com's Jared Shanker and The Associated Press contributed to this report.
