James Ihedigbo says he's a Lion
Ihedigbo announced the news on his Twitter account.
Ihedigbo was a familiar option for new Detroit defensive coordinator Teryl Austin. The 30-year-old played for Baltimore the past two seasons, where Austin was the defensive backs coach. As a starter last year, he had 99 tackles and intercepted three passes.
Undrafted out of Massachusetts, Ihedigbo has played in 85 games since 2008, making 199 tackles and having six sacks for the Jets, Patriots and Ravens.
Ihedigbo did not disclose terms of the deal.
He will replace last year's starting safety, Louis Delmas, who was released by the Lions in February. Delmas has since signed on with Miami. Ihedigbo is expected to be the starter with Detroit, lining up opposite Glover Quin, who the Lions added last season as a free agent signing.
