The Oakland Raiders have signed cornerback Carlos Rogers to a deal, the team said on its Twitter feed.

Cut by the San Francisco 49ers in the offseason, Rogers, 32, was the team's nickel cornerback last season and has been a mainstay since 2011. However, his age and cap number made the cut likely. He refused a pay cut last season and it paid off for him.

By releasing Rogers, the Niners saved more than $6 million against the salary cap.

The 49ers did not completely close the door on bringing back Rogers, according to a league source, but they didn't make much of a move toward doing so before he signed with the Raiders.

Information from ESPN.com San Francisco 49ers reporter Bill Williamson contributed to this report.
