Browns fans snap up tickets

The Cleveland Browns put single-game tickets on sale on Tuesday morning and, within 30 minutes, fans looking for a pair of tickets to any game were out of luck.

The Browns completely sold out their home opener against the New Orleans Saints on Sept. 14 -- as well as the Oct. 12 game vs. the Pittsburgh Steelers -- within 15 minutes of the online sale.

Single seats and a few pairs of club seats are available for the other six home games.

Although much of the buzz surrounding the team revolves around rookie quarterback Johnny Manziel, the former Heisman Trophy winner still has not been named the starter over Brian Hoyer, with whom he is splitting first-team reps with this week.

The Browns already had sold 2,300 new season tickets -- ranging in price from $190 each to $2,900 -- in less than 24 hours after drafting Manziel in May. Ticket prices had not changed from last season.

Despite the enthusiasm attributed to the rookie, Browns president Alec Scheiner told ESPN.com that the front office would not add any pressure to start Manziel.

"Our fans are very excited about Johnny, but they also very much like the local guy in Brian," Scheiner said. "We've gotten the sense that our fans here are very comfortable with whatever decision is made. We all want to win."

Scheiner said that the team has sold out of its high-end suites for the season, as supply was already limited after new video boards at FirstEnergy Stadium reduced capacity by at least 3,500 seats.

In their first four days of training camp, the Browns sold more merchandise than all 13 sessions combined in 2013. Although Manziel leads the league in jersey sales, nine of the top 10 items sold were non-player specific Browns gear.

Saturday night's game against the Detroit Lions was watched by 2.82 million viewers -- an NFL Network record for a preseason game.

"The optimism in this city is amazing," Scheiner said. "The city has had some hard times and it's good to see that what's happening has lifted the spirits of everyone around here."
