The eye black under Heyward's eyes says "Tackle" and "Cancer," which a source says Heyward grabbed before Pittsburgh's 23-13 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs because the league had made it available to players.
Heyward's "Iron" and "Head" eye black the previous two games was a violation of the NFL's uniform policy. Heyward was set to incur more than $17,000 in fines for honoring his father, former NFL fullback Craig "Ironhead" Heyward, who battled cancer before his 2006 death.
The league significantly reduced those fines under the stipulation Heyward would support his father in other ways.
An email to a league spokesman was not immediately returned.
