New Detroit Lions general manager Bob Quinn is starting to shape his front office, and to that end, he has been making moves within his football operations department.
On Friday, the Lions fired vice president of football operations Cedric Saunders, a team source said. He had been with the Lions for 10 seasons and was one of former general manager Martin Mayhew's most trusted front-office officials.
The 43-year-old Saunders was in charge of the team's football operations, including the player development department, video department, equipment operations, team travel, athletic training and strength and conditioning.
Earlier this week the Lions fired two of their main strength coaches, Ted Rath and Jason Arapoff.
Quinn has made one prominent front-office hire so far, bringing in Kyle O'Brien as director of player personnel.
Saunders' firing was first reported by The Detroit News.
