Total QBR is a quarterback rating that takes into account all of a quarterback's contributions (passing, rushing, sacks, fumbles, penalties) to his team's scoring and winning and summarizes them into one number on a 0-100 scale, on which 50 is average.
Total QBR
ESPN introduces Total QBR:
For a game, the number can be interpreted as a percentile, so a score of 80 means a quarterback's performance was better than 80 percent of all quarterbacks' games. For more about the methodology and statistics behind the Total QBR, see here.
Rebounding from his disappointing fourth quarter in Week 1 and a rib injury suffered in the first half of Sunday's game, Tony Romo rallied the Cowboys from a 10-point fourth-quarter deficit to an overtime victory. Romo finished with a 93.9 Total QBR, the highest on Sunday and the highest for any QB in a single game (min. 10 plays) so far this season.
On the other hand, Luke McCown struggled mightily in the Jaguars' 32-3 loss to the Jets, finishing with a Total QBR of 0.4. Not only was that the lowest score of the week, it was the third-lowest Total QBR recorded by any quarterback in a single game (min. 20 plays) since 2008.
Eli Manning and Sam Bradford both finished with mediocre Total QBR scores on Monday night. Bradford's one turnover and failure to convert in the red zone hurt him a little bit, while Eli Manning did enough to help the Giants come away with the win.
Below is the full breakdown of Total QBR and its component statistics for all 32 NFL QBs with a minimum of 10 action plays in Week 2.
Results shown here may differ from those published earlier on ESPN.com. These are due to small errors in evaluating home/road differences that were corrected prior to Week 4. ESPN regrets the error.
