Tracy Porter injures neck vs. Bucs
NEW ORLEANS -- Saints cornerback Tracy Porter injured his neck and was taken to a hospital for observation as a precaution.
Porter was hurt breaking up a pass on the second play from scrimmage of New Orleans' 27-16 win over Tampa Bay on Sunday. Porter was communicating with teammates and gave a thumbs-up as he was carted from the field.
Coach Sean Payton said after the game that all the feedback he had received on Porter's condition was positive.
"I'll update you more [Monday], but certainly our prayers are with him," Payton said. "It's good to get in here after the game and find out that he is doing pretty well."
Porter lay face down and motionless for several seconds after making a hard, low hit on receiver Mike Williams, who appeared to hurt his left leg but later returned to the game.
Soon after the collision, Porter was moving both legs briefly before trainers held him still, carefully turned him on his back, removed his face mask and strapped him to a stretcher.
The Bucs also suffered a significant injury during the game, losing starting defensive tackle Gerald McCoy to a biceps injury.
McCoy had just returned to the lineup after missing Tampa Bay's previous two games with an ankle injury. He did not have a tackle against the Saints before being taken out of the game.
Team officials did not have any further details on the injury to McCoy, who was drafted third overall out of Oklahoma in 2010.
