Costly suspension for Aqib Talib
TAMPA, Fla. -- Buccaneers cornerback Aqib Talib cost himself much more than a one-game suspension in the 2010 season for an incident with a cab driver.

ESPN.com's Pat Yasinskas writes about all things NFC South in his division blog.
According to contract numbers obtained by ESPN.com, Talib's suspension kicked in an automatic forfeiture of an escalator for the 2012 season that could have been worth up to $2.8 million. Talib also missed a game check of $83,383 for the game he was suspended.
Talib is still scheduled to earn $1.853 million this season, but that number could have been much higher if he hadn't been suspended.
Talib also is scheduled to stand trial for an assault charge in Texas later this month. He could face prison time or a suspension by the NFL or the team.
