Marcus Trufant back to Seattle

RENTON, Wash. -- The Seattle Seahawks agreed to terms Monday with longtime cornerback Marcus Trufant on a one-year deal.

Trufant's time in Seattle appeared over when he was released by the team with two years left on his contract on March 7. Trufant was scheduled to make $7.2 and $8.8 million in base salary the next two years. He missed significant time the last three seasons with injuries and had his productivity slip, leading to his release.

Trufant was placed on injured reserve on October 17 with a back injury after appearing in just four games in 2011.

He explored the free agent market before returning to the only franchise he's ever known. In his nine seasons with Seattle, Trufant has 604 tackles (533 solo) to rank 10th in Seattle history, two sacks, 21 interceptions to rank fifth in Seattle history, two touchdowns on interception returns, 113 passes defensed, four forced fumbles and five fumble recoveries.

Trufant was voted to the Pro Bowl after the 2007 season, when he had a career-high seven interceptions, 85 tackles and 16 passes defensed, including tying the franchise mark with three interceptions in one game (against Arizona) and returning one 84 yards for his first career score.

His role in returning to Seattle is uncertain, although it's unlikely he regains his starting job with the emergence of Brandon Browner and Richard Sherman last year. Trufant provides insurance for cornerback Walter Thurmond, who is recovering from a broken leg suffered on October 23.
