Sources: Terence Newman to Cincy
The Cincinnati Bengals added a new face to their secondary and are contemplating the subtraction of a player from their linebacker corps.
Hensley: Another 1st-rounder for Bengals
Terence Newman is the sixth former first-round pick to agree to a deal with the Bengals this offseason. ESPN.com's Jamison Hensley cautions that first-round talent doesn't guarantee a first-place finish, however. Blog
The Bengals on Wednesday agreed to a one-year deal with former Dallas Cowboys cornerback Terence Newman, who played for defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer in Dallas, league sources told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.
In addition, the team is exploring a trade that would send linebacker Keith Rivers to the New York Giants, the sources said.
Newman, drafted fifth overall in the 2003 draft, was cut by the Cowboys earlier this offseason in a salary cap move. The two-time Pro Bowl cornerback was scheduled to count more than $8 million against the salary cap in 2012.
The 33-year-old Newman, who went to the Pro Bowl in 2007 and 2009, started 131 of his 133 games with the Cowboys and has 558 career tackles and 32 interceptions.

Newman appeared in all 16 games six times for the Cowboys. He missed the first two games last season with a groin injury, and missed six games with a similar injury in 2008. Newman had 53 tackles with four interceptions last season, but became the target of opposing teams late in the season. He had a career-high 79 tackles in 2010.
Rivers, the ninth overall pick in 2008, missed the 2011 season after not fully recovering from surgery on his right wrist in July.
The linebacker, who turns 26 in May, has 186 career tackles, two sacks, two interceptions and a forced fumble in 35 career games.
