Redskins rookie running back Alfred Morris started Sunday's season opener, giving Washington a pair of first-year players in their backfield.

Morris started alongside rookie quarterback Robert Griffin III against the New Orleans Saints, although the Redskins are expected to use a committee of running backs this season.

Evan Royster, who's first on the depth chart ahead of fellow second-year man Roy Helu and Morris, had said he wouldn't be surprised if he didn't find out who's with the first team until Sunday.

Although Royster and Helu both saw some playing time, Morris served as Washington's primary ball carrier and scored his first career touchdown on a 1-yard run in the third quarter.

The Redskins selected Morris from Florida Atlantic in the sixth round of April's draft.
