Source: Kyle Shanahan fined $25K
Washington Redskins offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan was fined $25,000 for an unsportsmanlike penalty in Sunday's loss to the Bengals, but New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick and Baltimore Ravens coach John Harbaugh will not be suspended for interactions in this past weekend's games that appeared to violate the NFL warning about proper conduct between coaches and replacement officials, a league official told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.
While Belichick and Harbaugh will avoid suspensions, Belichick is expected to be fined. Discipline could be announced as early as Wednesday, a source told ESPN's Ed Werder.
NFL executive vice president of football operations Ray Anderson said Monday he was reviewing incidents from Sunday night's New England-Baltimore game involving Belichick and Harbaugh.
Anderson said, "There is a long-standing NFL rule prohibiting verbal or physical abuse of game officials."
Belichick grabbed the arm of an official as they were leaving the field after Baltimore kicked a winning field goal at the end of the game.
On Monday, the NFL fined Denver Broncos coach John Fox $30,000 and defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio $25,000 for their behavior during last Monday night's loss to Atlanta in which they publicly criticized officials.
Fox and Del Rio were both furious at the replacement officials, especially during a chaotic first quarter that took an hour to play in front of a national audience.
After the game, Fox sidestepped whether the game's unsteady flow hurt his team.
"In this league, you have to overcome a lot of things," Fox said, "and we don't use officiating as an excuse."
The NFL reached out to the owners, general managers and coaches of all 32 teams last week to advise them that the type of on-field behavior it witnessed in Week 2 games would not be acceptable.
Information from ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter, ESPN's Ed Werder, ESPN.com's Bill Williamson and The Associated Press was used in this report.
