Michael Vick not worried about job
Michael Vick said Wednesday that he wasn't bothered by the mini-controversy stirred up Monday when Andy Reid said the quarterback would be "evaluated as we go."
"I heard it, but I really don't pay attention to what's being said unless I've heard from coach himself," Vick said, according to the Eagles' website. "We talked about it and it's all about me going out and getting ready for this week against New York.
Reid clarified his remarks on his radio show Monday evening and again did damage control Wednesday at his news conference.
"Well, it was the way that it was interpreted. That's not what I had in mind," Reid said, according to the team's website, explaining that he didn't realize the uproar his comments had caused until the Eagles director of football media services explained how his remarks were being portrayed in the media. ...
"I've talked to Mike (and) made sure I mentioned it on my radio show. You guys are very good at what you do, so I (want to) make sure we clarify it. Bad semantics there," he said.
"Michael is our starting quarterback."
Sunday's loss was Philadelphia's first of the season, but Vick has struggled early this season with six interceptions through three games and just three touchdown passes and one touchdown run.
According to ESPN Stats & Information, his nine turnovers are more than all but one team so far this season -- the Chiefs also have nine.
Vick has been sacked nine times in three games to go along with being tackled several times on scrambles and absorbing numerous legal hits right after he releases the ball.
According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Vick is just the second quarterback in the past 25 years with at least nine turnovers to get sacked at least nine times in the first three games of a season. The only other player is Daunte Culpepper, who did it twice, in 2002 and 2005.
Vick said Wednesday he's confident his problems can be "corrected."
"That's the most important thing. I know I can get my job done week in and week out. As a whole, you know you have to put it all together and that's what I'm focused on, nothing in between," he said, according to the team's website.
"I pretty much expect us to put it all together at some point. Everything is good with our offense, everything is in sync, everything is intact. We just have to get better. If we eliminate the turnovers and start fast, we give ourselves a chance to win the game."
