Danieal Manning fined $15K

The NFL fined Houston Texans safety Danieal Manning $15,000 on Tuesday for his actions during the team's 42-24 loss on Sunday night against the Green Bay Packers, according to a league source.

The fine comes as a result of an incident in which Manning punched Packers offensive lineman Marshall Newhouse as the safety was pinned under a pile. The offensive tackle was on top of the Texans safety with Manning's knee bent awkwardly.

According to the source, Manning plans to appeal the fine because his punches came in an attempt to protect himself from injury.

A former second-round pick of the Chicago Bears, Manning signed a four-year contract with the Texans in July worth $20 million, including $9 million in guarantees. A sixth-year veteran, Manning produced somewhat of a breakout season in 2011 as a Bear when he contributed 85 tackles, an interception and five pass breakups.

Through the first six games, Manning has contributed 25 tackles for the Texans, a fumble recovery and a 55-yard interception returned for a touchdown in addition to three pass breakups.
