Nate Burleson out with broken leg

CHICAGO -- Detroit Lions wide receiver Nate Burleson broke his right leg during Monday's game against the Chicago Bears and will miss the remainder of the season, according to Lions coach Jim Schwartz.

Burleson will need surgery and will eight months of recovery time, the Detroit Free Press reports.

Burleson was tackled on a 16-yard reception in the third quarter and needed to be helped off the field. He did not return to the game. It was his only catch of the game.

Burleson has 26 receptions for 224 yards and two touchdowns on the season. In 10 NFL seasons, he has 417 catches for 5,153 yards and 38 touchdowns.

"Man, that's tough," Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson said. "We lose a leader, captain on the team. Man, I hate it for him that it had to happen to him. I talked to him after the game; he saying he's going to be out for some significant time. It's tough because he's an emotional leader, leads by example on the field, gets the energy up. We're going to have to take that over for him."

Lions rookie Ryan Broyles, a 2012 second-round pick, will replace Burleson as the team's third wide receiver. Broyles made his first career reception against the Bears. He finished with three receptions for 51 yards and one touchdown.
