Beanie Wells expects to leave Cards
Sando: Cards Can't Count On Wells
The past four years have proven the Cardinals can't count on the oft-injured Beanie Wells for a consistently excellent performance, Mike Sando writes. Blog
"That's my mindset," Wells said, according to the Arizona Republic. "I'm just going to go out there and put my best foot forward for all the 31 other teams that's watching."
The Cardinals benched Wells after the Bears returned his fumble for a touchdown Sunday in Arizona's 28-13 loss to Chicago.
Wells is under contract for next season, but when asked whether he thought his days in Arizona were numbered, he said: "Oh, without a doubt. It's inevitable."
Wells said he should have gotten a chance to make up for his fumble rather than being benched. He finished the game with four carries for 3 yards.
"I didn't agree with it at all," he said.
Wells missed seven games with knee and toe injuries this season but scored three touchdowns against Detroit in Week 15.
"This is a performance-based business, and I don't know if I've done things up to our organization's standards here," he said. "Maybe it's a discussion that we'll have later on, but who knows?"
