Doug Marrone praises EJ Manuel

Buffalo Bills coach Doug Marrone couldn't be happier with rookie quarterback EJ Manuel.

"From my standpoint ... EJ Manuel has done better [as a rookie] than any of the other organizations I've been a part of," Marrone said after Friday's practice, via the team's official website.

He's in his first season with the Bills, but Marrone spent seven seasons as an assistant with the New York Jets and New Orleans Saints before a stint at Syracuse.

Marrone's latest comments are a contrast from earlier this month. At the Bills' three-day rookie minicamp, Marrone said he was keeping his expectations in check when it came to assessing Manuel, who was the only quarterback taken in the first round of April's draft when he was selected 16th overall.

Manuel, who also has captured the attention of a win-starved fan base, is battling Kevin Kolb and Tarvaris Jackson for the starting job.
