Jason Babin has groin surgery

Jacksonville Jaguars defensive end Jason Babin underwent groin surgery Tuesday morning and is expected back for the start of training camp, coach Gus Bradley announced.

Bradley said Babin's groin "just didn't feel right," so he went to Philadelphia for a second opinion and opted for surgery. Bradley adds that "everything went well, went really well."

Babin was claimed on waivers by the Jaguars last season after he was released by the Philadelphia Eagles, less than two seasons after signing a five-year, $28.9 million contract with the team in 2011.

He is under contract through the 2015 season and is scheduled to make $4,225,000 in base salary this season.

He had 1.5 sacks in five games for Jacksonville and finished the 2012 season with seven total sacks.

The 33-year-old defensive end had a career-best 18 sacks in 2011 for Philadelphia and has 55 sacks in his career.
