Brian Cushing cleared to return
Cushing will be ready for training camp, although the team will ease him back into action, a source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.
Cushing, 26, tore his anterior cruciate ligament after a rolling hit by then-New York Jets guard Matt Slauson on Oct. 8 of last season. Slauson was not flagged on the play, but he was fined $10,000 by the NFL.
Before his injury last season, Cushing had only missed four games in his previous three NFL seasons, and that was to serve a suspension in 2010 for a positive test for a banned substance.
Cushing's last major injury before the 2012 season came during his junior season at Southern California, when he missed three games with a sprained left ankle.
He led the Texans with 114 tackles in 2011 and had an interception and a forced fumble to go along with his 38 stops last season before his season-ending injury.
Information from ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter and The Associated Press was used in this report.
