DeAndre Hopkins cleared to play
Hopkins suffered the concussion against the Miami Dolphins during the Texans' second preseason game. He missed the team's final two preseason games, having not passed the NFL's concussion protocol.
Texans coach Gary Kubiak said last Thursday after the Texans played at Dallas that had Hopkins taken the test that day, he would have passed.
Hopkins was the Texans' first-round draft pick and should start opposite Andre Johnson against the Chargers (10:15 p.m. ET on ESPN).
Johnson offered the rookie some advice.
"I'm talking to him all the time. The one thing I'll just tell him is to go out and play as hard as you can, worry about the mistakes later and just leave it all out on the field," Johnson said. "A lot of times good things happen just by giving effort. You can't think while you're playing. You have to go out and try to execute to the best of your abilities and move on from it."
