LANDOVER, Md. -- Robert Griffin III's knee brace disappeared and some wondered if he had taken it off altogether. The simple answer is, no, he did not.

But the bigger question was why the Washington Redskins' star quarterback covered up his brace at all. He did not do so last season.

"Everybody in the league [office] kept calling to the sideline saying I needed to cover the brace up," Griffin said after the Redskins' 33-27 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday. "I don't understand that. That's why we had to do some stuff to cover the brace up. It was the same brace but it looked bigger because they kept putting stuff over it."

It looked like he had an extra burgundy sock or legging over the brace, making his right knee appear a little bulkier. Griffin could not explain why the league requested he cover it up.

"I don't know what the league is doing," he said. "I got fined 10 grand for a shirt. I don't know."

Griffin was fined $10,000 after an Aug. 19 preseason game for wearing an Operation Patience T-shirt while warming up. The NFL said it did not meet its uniform code.
