Jeff Fisher mum on Rams' starting RB
EARTH CITY, Mo. -- The St. Louis Rams will be reminding their players of the team's Twitter guidelines. But that will probably come well after figuring out who will be the starting running back Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Rams coach Jeff Fisher was surprised Wednesday when he was informed that starting running back Daryl Richardson tweeted that he wasn't going to be handling those duties this week.
Fisher said the Rams do have a policy in place intended to remind players to be smart about how they use social media. He said he'll talk to Richardson at some point about the tweet.

The three running backs the Rams have played have found little success. Jeff Fisher indicated last week that the team would make some adjustments. They can by giving rookie Zac Stacy an opportunity, writes Nick Wagoner. Blog
"I'll discuss it," Fisher said. "I don't think he meant it. He's coming off some injuries and he just needs to be more thoughtful about his responses.
"We haven't gone one direction or the other [on a starter] yet."
On Tuesday night, Richardson exchanged tweets with a fan, who asked the running back if he was going to start. The since-deleted response from Richardson read simply "not this week man."
Asked about the conversation Wednesday, Richardson said he wasn't specifically told he wouldn't be starting this against Jacksonville.
"[Fisher] was saying it's going to be a competition," Richardson said. "I was just talking to one of my fans on there. I didn't mean nothing like that, though."
Of more importance for the Rams is actually figuring out a way to get any semblance of a running game going, regardless of who starts. Through the first four weeks, the Rams are last in the NFL in rushing, averaging a little more than 47 yards per game.
Richardson leads the team in rushing with 114 yards, but he's averaging just 2.7 yards per attempt and has battled a foot injury since the opener against Arizona.
After the Rams rushed for 18 yards on 19 carries last week against San Francisco, Fisher indicated the team would spend the weekend looking for solutions. That search has included a rotation among the backs this week in practice.
"We have just had one day of practice and all the backs got to participate in practice, so we've got different things for different style of runners," Fisher said.
Pead and Cunningham have had opportunities in the first four weeks, getting seven and 10 carries, respectively. Reynolds has played exclusively on special teams.
Stacy, a rookie, has had a single carry in limited time and could potentially represent something new to the mix should he get a chance for an expanded role.
Stacy said he's not counting on anything this week but he'd be happy to get his shot after being inactive in Weeks 2 and 3.
"It would mean a lot," Stacy said. "It would be a reflection of the coaches putting their trust in me, but my mentality coming into this thing is just being productive, being consistent week in, week out."
The Rams still have two practice days to sort through their running back situation, but the committee approach that's been hinted at since the departure of Steven Jackson may be the ultimate winner.
"(We'll) probably play most if not all of the running backs that are active, so it depends on what package we're in when we start the game," Fisher said.
