Browns considering QB change
Sunday Blitz: Browns-Packers Recap
BEREA, Ohio -- The Cleveland Browns could be making a quarterback change.
At least they're thinking about it.
Coach Rob Chudzinski said he and his coaching staff would discuss what to do about the position Monday afternoon. That statement came exactly one week after Chudzinski said definitively that Brandon Weeden was the starter.
This week's answer spoke volumes.
"Basically right now and up to this point is about evaluating the last game," Chudzinski said. "We'll talk as a staff later on. We'll put the guys at all positions who will give us the best opportunity to win."
He did concede that he was considering a change from Weeden, though he did couch his statement.
"At all positions we're looking and considering that," Chudzinski said. "And that's typically what we do every week."
Which means that Jason Campbell could become the 20th quarterback to start for the Browns since 1999. Campbell has been passed over twice when Weeden and Brian Hoyer were injured, but it appears this might be his chance.
"We're going to look at it," Chudzinski said.
In their past six quarters, the Browns have been outscored 55-13. The Browns are winless in Weeden's four starts. Against Green Bay he started wild and high, and finished with 149 yards passing on 42 attempts.
Though Chudzinski said he thought the team fought, there were several times during the game when players looked frustrated and almost disengaged.
And, a week after a backhand flip turned into a bad interception, Weeden tried yet another flip. This one was forward and underhanded, but it was the type of play the coaches had talked about eliminating.
Chudzinski said the team's problems were not all Weeden.
"It's not all Brandon," Chudzinski said. "That's the first thing you have to look at as you look at the tape and see there's some execution errors and issues with other guys. Brandon needs to play better, but we all need to play better around him.
"We'll go through the process talking about that and come up with a plan that gives us the best chance to win."
