ASHBURN, Va. -- Kai Forbath hopes the Arena Football League will improve his kicking.

He's not going there, but he did finally get his wish when the Washington Redskins installed a set of Arena League goalposts this week on one of their four fields at Redskins Park.

Arena League goalposts are 9 feet wide compared to the NFL's, which are 18 feet, 6 inches.

"It just helps you focus," Forbath said. "It helps your accuracy. If you make them on there, it really helps your confidence, especially when you get out and see the real ones."

Forbath said a number of teams already have these goalposts, including Dallas and Tampa Bay, with whom he was in camp.

"We're definitely not the first team to have them," he said. "I'm glad we're doing it because it will help in the long run. We kicked on it every day this week, and so far it's just a huge confidence boost when you're making them."

Forbath has been a good kicker since taking over early in the 2012 season, making his first 17 kicks last season before missing one. This season, he has made 4 of 6 attempts.

Because he hasn't kicked in a game since the goalposts were put in, it's tough to know the impact.

"I'm not really sure," Redskins coach Mike Shanahan said. "It's something he wanted. We brought it in for a reason. When I was in Denver, Jason Elam wanted that at the time when it had just come out. Whatever they feel will help them we're willing to get."
