Not a great effort for the Vikings to close the preseason in a 24-17 loss to the Titans. But rookie QB Taylor Heinicke might have done enough to land a roster spot. He threw for 279 yards and a pair of TDs despite throwing under duress most of the night. He might be Teddy Bridgewater's backup of the future.

It's been a rough first half for the Vikings in Nashville; kicker Blair Walsh is now 5-for-11 in the preseason after missing from 48 yards against Tennessee. The Vikings rested most of their offensive starters, and they trail the Titans 14-3.

Norv Turner said today that Mike Wallace "has played a lot better in the last two years than people give him credit for." If Wallace has one of his typical years -- 65 catches and nine or 10 TDs -- Turner said the receiver will "make a great contribution to our team."
