Wide receiver cupboard bare in Carolina

Yes, the Panthers have second-round rookie Devin Funchess, but he's been battling a hamstring injury. The other targets for Cam Newton? Not so pretty.

Benjamin replacement drops the ball

Corey Brown once again struggled in Carolina's preseason game against New England. Brown had four drops in the game to go with the two he had last week against the Dolphins. Is his confidence shot? Saturday camp preview

Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton after Friday night's 17-16 loss to New England: "I don't want to make this about Corey (Brown). We lost a game we should have won. (Corey) what he has to do." But in many ways the loss was about Brown. He had four dropped passes, two that would have been touchdowns. He is one of the players the Panthers need to step up with Kelvin Benjamin out for the year. Six drops in two games. It can't help but be about Brown.

Patriots win despite Brady's picks

Tom Brady didn't look great, finishing with just 84 yards passing on 13 attempts with a pair of interceptions, but the Patriots edged the Panthers 17-16 in preseason action. Cam Newton was 17-for-28 for 160 yards and a TD for Carolina. Box score

How bad has it gotten for Carolina Panthers wide receiver Corey Brown? Team television analyst Mick Mixon called the second-year player "butterfingers" after Brown dropped a sure touchdown in the second quarter against New England. Brown had two more drops on the drive to go with one he could have caught in the first quarter and two last week. It was so bad that quarterback Cam Newton came over to pep Brown up. This is one reason the first team offense has only 13 points on 14 preseason series.

The Carolina Panthers continued to start slow offensively. With a field goal on four drives to start Friday night's game against New England the first unit has 10 points on 11 series. Drops continue to be an issue.

Brady picked off again

If this is a regular-season dress rehearsal, Tom Brady may want to re-write the script. The Pats QB is 2-for-6 passing and just threw his second interception of the first quarter. The Panthers lead the Patriots 3-0. Follow live

Slow start for Brady

Tom Brady is just 1-for-3 passing for 7 yards on New England's first two possessions of the game. The Pats and Panthers are scoreless in the first quarter of the third preseason game for each team. Follow live
